Preliminary Exercise

We were set a preliminary  task in which we had to produce a 30 second video clip which had to have a match on action shot, a 180 degree shot which had to show characters speaking lines of dialogue.

In our group we had two females exchanging lines of dialogue while sitting across a table opposite each other.  Our plot consisted of two females talking about a dead body of someone who they just murdered. They were asking each other  if they had told anyone about what had just happened and if they knew where this dead body was.

WWW:

In our media production we wanted to give a sense of enigma so that the viewers would be intrigued to find out more about what happens after the scene has ended. i think we were successful in that aspect as we left a great cliff hanger in which a female lifts up the hood of a dead body's face which leads to showing the face and the camera fades out and the clip finishes. We used a range of different shots including a long shot, extreme close up and shot reverse shots. We used a ECL to show match on action when the door was being opened by a character. I also think that we had a good shot under the table so we could see a character move to get of their chair and approach the dead body.

EBI:

It would have been better if less of the background was shown in the 180 degree shots as there would have then been more of an emphasis on the characters, however as the shot showed a lot of the background, it may seem to be a distraction for the viewer as they might start looking at other things rather than the character.

WWW: I agree with your positive comments - there were some great shots and your use of the term enigma is excellent.
EBI: Overall, this is nowhere near enough - almost 200 words short of the minimum of 500 (and the first paragraph is just explaining the brief). You need much more depth to your analysis when producing extended writing in A Level Media - choose a couple of significant shots and break them down in detail. What do they tell the audience?
LR: List three things you will do differently when it comes to your main coursework having completed this preliminary exercise.

For the real evaluation I will make sure that the evaluation is in much more depth and detail. I will explain how the individual shot can be perceived by the audience and it will exceed the minimum amount of words.
